Got a late start, which was fine. Had to sleep, and let Therese have her walk. Also, it was the last day at Ernie's shop, so I had to stop by one last time, and buy something from him. I drove down to Manresa, figuring it would be ok. This time I rigged up the 10' #9, with the 9wt outbound line.. I'm now sick of shooting heads until I figure out a good way to get rid of the clicky-clack. I also managed to ding my reel (boo), by stringing the rod with the butt on the bumper (thump). Not bad, but it isn't mint any more. 2 guys talked to me in the parking lot as I was getting ready, both fishermen curious about what I was doing.
surf is still high.. really high far out, but some good foamy areas to fish over. Too much right by the parking lot, so I walk north, hoping for more fishable areas. I run into Stu, the guy from the old ID building, and we chat for a while.
Around the shingle condos, I get into some fish; two 8-inch perch. Later I get a good one, probably about 10-11 or so. That felt nice. The first fish took the worm-tail fly; the other two took the surf miki on point.
Saw an otter in the surfzone, which was fun. I haven't seen that very much. I think one of the things that attracts me to this fishing is the element of danger. A few times today, self-preservation took over and I turned and ran up the beach, as I saw some steamroller waves head my way. Fun, and I didn't get wet :). Maybe next time.
I had one other fish on, but at the time I was fumbling around with stripping into the basket hanging on my left hip, and tried to switch with the fish on. I must have given it some slack, as it came unhooked somewhere out there. Too bad.. it felt like a good one.
New moon. High tide. Sunny weather. I fished about 10-12.
