Manresa beach. Its a thursday and I've arranged it to have the morning off to go fishing. Got a new reel to inagurate, too. Tide is outgoing. I drive down and park in the outside 'lot' without looking at the water, figuring its all or nothing.
Strung up the XTR again, with the outbound #8/8 line now on the new Nautilus reel (sold off the Ross). Business end is the same as the last few times; Mark's 3-fly leader with loops, a surf miki on point, with a crab woolly and a Mark's micro fly on the droppers. Walk down the beach, looks pretty good. Nice and clear, and only a couple of surfer types. Marbled godwits on the beach, small sandpipers, and some godwit looking birds with curved beaks.
One other guy on the beach, fishing. We fish the same area for a while. I get a small grab and pull in a tiny perch, but it got off by my feet and I didn't see what kind. I think it was a dink barred. A bit later I get a good tug, and pull in a nice walleye perch. Groovy. Mostly I fish this general area, in front of the parking lot. Seems the fish are holding on the sides of the hole. I walk down a bit, switch the point fly to the new bunny attractor fly (orange tail, brown fur, pink rubber legs) and get another nice walleye. It too took the micro fly. A few more tugs, but I'm satisfied. Also, my hand/arm is getting tired, not sure why. The bunny fly looks great in the water; can't wait to get it in front of a big perch or striper. Next batch need to be glued, though, as the bunnyfur slid backward on it.
No fish pics.. I wanted them back in the water as soon as possible. I should get a waterproof camera so I don't have to futz getting it out of my wader pocket. One of those rubber-mesh nets too, I think.
A nice morning, and I got some fish. On the way out a surfer says "its better at Sunset, bunch of people fishing there". Oh well...
