Pinto lake again..
The weather has been warm for 2 days in a row now, and getting warmer. I kept thinking back to pinto lake, wondering if the bass bite is improving, and felt the desire to try it again. Well, things are calm at home, and I got a morning out, though not a LONG morning out, mind you.
As I drive down, Deva calls. I tell him I'm almost at the Airport Blvd exit.. he says he is 10 minutes behind me, and we hadn't talked about it. HAHA! Just great.
He arrives while I'm setting up. He gets in the water faster than me.. I spend time deciding which fly-setup to use, finally settling on the XTR 8wt with the #10 sinking outbound line, to toss the new bunny-worm flies I tied up last night.
Pinto Lake is still kinda mucky around the launch area, and also on the right side where we started fishing. We fish, but no takes. I figure I'll flyfish until I see Deva get them on his senkos when I'm not. I do try tossing the bunny worm on the spincast rod, which works fine though they are a little light.
Deva gets going:
They're there somewhere:

Deva:
pretty out
I catch some trash.
a couple of guys in a small bassboat tells Deva that watermelon color senkos are the key to it (and they'd caught a couple of fish). I'll soon be tying up some bunny worms in that color, and maybe some red ones too, while I'm at it.
On the way back, I switch to a chartreause clouser and actively fish it along the
reeds. No hits, but it was fun. Got stuck once too..
Well, another morning and no fish. Still, extremely pleasant to be doing it. I'm glad I decided correctly on the flyrod setup, an 8wt line would not haver cast the big bunnies as well, I think.
Flying Geese:
on the way out, a guy on the bank tells me the other side is usually better. Guess I'll go again.
