outing with the boys in the afternoon, where we checked out some northern beaches at low tide.
Beach north of Pigeon Point had nice tidepools.. in the sandy area, patches of underwater vegetation was exposed by the low tide. Looked shallow and not very fishy.
Wadell looked shallow and difficult.
We stopped at scott creek, which looked pretty good. My experience with the place is that its steep with big waves, but at this low tide it was fine. It also had a couple of nice looking rip currents, one of which was occupied by the heavy sinker tossing crowd. Nevertheless, I rigged up to go fishing.
Back to the XTR and 8wt outbound line. MOFG grub and a 'gaddsara' streamer. Wow, castin felt good! :) Haven't handled this combo in a while. Zoom! A couple of casts in I get a solid grab and a good bit of headshaking, that then drops off. Wow, and rats!@%$#@ Pulled up the terminal end to see the grub pulled way down into the hookbend. Definitely a fish, likely a decent size perch. Few casts later it happens again, but then I'm stuck into a bunch of kelp. Grub is gone too.. should have tied a new leader!!! Not sure what happened there. Maybe a fish (felt like one).
All this time, the boys are on the beach building a really cool fort out of driftwood. I head back up to the car and they eventually join me, as its getting kinda cold. We head in to Davenport for hot chocolate and croissants.
All in all I fished 10, maybe 15 minutes. Somewhere around 4:30 - 5pm.
