Manresa beach.. I headed down for a quickie, with hope for fish. Tide is outgoing from high, close to the top still. Rigged up with the EXS rod / NV reel / shooting head S3. Eschewed the clouser in favor of perch flies.
Some nice looking places to fish, but the water looks brownish. I think the red tide has started happening. I wasted a bunch of time in front of the parking lot, then moved north. Water was clearer, pretty good actually, around the trestle. Still no fish, which is disappointing. Walking, the Albright rod balances nicely with the NV reel. The XTR is much heavier, and the balance point is just above the front of the handle on that rig. The funky chinese made Albright is one light stick!
I spotted another guy further up that was waded out far enought that I suspected him of flyfishing. Walked up there to chat.. name is Troy, and he's had good luck recently but not today. Red tide was apparent at the hole he was fishing, a hole that had produced lots of perch the week before. He'd also fished the San Lorenzo over winter, and caught quite a lot of steelhead. For some reason I didn't ask what his technique there was. Something like 26 fish!!
Walked back briskly to the parking lot, and rinsed off. Lesson at 11:15 at SCZ High, and I just made it.
