another morning at manresa
I fished the outgoing tide from about 9:30 - 11:15 am. I caught 3 perch and had another that came in almost to my feet before shaking loose. In between, I had a few more grabs that also shook loose, and so I checked the sharpness of my hooks. Manresa again, with conditions and gear about the same as the last trip. The surfers stayed on the beach, except for one group that headed out, but they came back in pretty quickly, not being able to get past the breakers. Weather was overcast clearing to sunny and beautiful. Seemed that the bite started when the sun came out.. maybe the fish could see my flies in the churn better then, or maybe I just found where the fish were.. 2 of the fish happened on consecutive casts. Big foamy flats. In places, there was a strong current to the right. Crazy, fun waves to stand in -- I came close to getting dunked once. I'm beginning to feel somewhat confident that I can catch perch in these conditions.

I tried taking some movies of the surf with the digicam, but the result wasn't as good as I hoped; I'll keep the camera still the next time and not pan the scene, as the low quality makes the detail hard to see. The surf was impressive today. It felt really great to be out, and the good mood carried through the rest of the day, which was somewhat tricky.
