flies: #6 surf miki 3, and a #10 zen worm. I need to get some #8 hooks.
Manresa beach again, 9:00 or so. Fished the first hole, on the left side, but no hits. Fished it from the right, and had one hit; a walleye that unhooked itself, but I had it close enough to see its size (small), and that it ate the zen worm. Overcast, clearing to sunshine. I walked further down the beach but didn't have any hits. Saw a dolphin pounding through the surf.. that was fun. Went back to the first hole again, and this time it was different, as the tide had come in some. Fish had come in too, and I had multiple hits, and 3 barred perch landed. Small ones only. Had a few more on but lost them, including one that was significantly bigger than the rest. Skies returned to overcast. One other fisherman showed up; a bait guy. He caught a few during this time, and was keeping his big ones. Toward the end the waves were getting bigger and more challenging to work through. I had lots of fun being out in the middle of it, though.
It seems like I lost a lot of fish today. Maybe because the smaller flies are easier to get unhooked from? The hooks were new and sharp. I didn't loose so many when using the #4 zen worm, and the small fish pounced on that one as well. A couple of the perch took the surf miki. On the plus side, I felt a number of grabs, but on the minus side, they didn't stick. I wonder which fly those fish chose.
Done at 11:30.
