This weekend I thought I'd make it out to the beach for a little surf perch fishing, but family events conspired against it. The tides weren't favorable either, with the low tide not being particularly low, so...
Dominic and I went up to Westlake pond again for a little bluegill fishing. It was overcast today, and I couldn't find my polarized glasses, so seeing the fish was rather difficult. But we managed anyway. I fished with my green/yellow popper, and Dominic had his little purple/gold/marabou popper on (his first fly -- he tied it himself, with a lot of help from me), with the clear casting bubble this time. The bluegill liked both of them. We caught some pretty big ones too.. nice males with lots of red on them.
A few of them ended up in the bucket for a while, so Dominic could look at them, but one of them was bleeding from somewhere inside the mouth/gill area. I thought we'd have to kill it and eat it, and Dominic was both sad and interested in the prospect of that. Of course, he had already named it, which didn't help. Fortunately, it got better (stopped bleeding), and we decided to let them all go.
Couple of other kids were there too.. the boys we'd seen up there before.
We probably caught about a dozen fish. They really like that popper of mine. I have to make some that are smaller though, I think. At least if I want to catch more of the smaller fish.
I took a bunch of slides today. I like the quality of these images a lot better than that of my digi-snapper. Wish I could take my real camera (a Nikon F3) anywhere.
