I fished the late morning, till 11:30 or so. First, I drove down to Palm Beach to check it out; looked ok; some holes and large channels to fish, but no hits no nothing there. Very clear out, sunny, water looked like it had good visibility. There is some structure there that will work well once the tide comes in more.. some nice diagonal channels and such.
I was first fishing with the 8wt floating bonefish line, but have now decided that it really is too light for that rod (10' #9), and I should have a 9wt line. Interestingly, the 8wt bonefish line works well for distance casting practice up at the pond; last time I was there I was pretty much banging out the whole line. But, fishing in the surf with a brace of weighted flies on is a very different situation. I also didn't have a tailwind, hehe. I ended up switching to the 8wt outbound line, fast sink, and that cast easier with less work. Seems well balanced for that rod. No fish on that either, though.
It was however a nice morning for a walk on the beach. I tried a couple of other spots heading south, but then went back to the car. I talked to a visitor on the way back, a guy who flyfishes for trout and such. ("Yes, you should have a good double haul before hitting the surf...") I then drove up to Manresa, but it looked pretty flat too. I fished there for a while, and had some nibbles, but none that stuck long enough for me to see the fish. They felt really small.
Packed up and drove in to work.
