Sunday September 20th, 2009

One of those outings. Not quite enough sleep the night before, but I get down there around 8:00. Nice and foggy. Manresa. As I gear up, another car with a bunch of Asians pull up beside me. Turns out one of them guys got a good striper here last night, so now the word is out. There are about 12 rods on the beach already. Big pyramid sinkers, cut bait. Walking across the beach I see one of them pull up a nice striper, letting it flop on the sand and slowly asphyxiate.

Some fishing boats are right offshore.. one looks like a purse seiner.

Some new gear today; I'm trying my new #9 floater outbound line, on the #9 10' Sage XP rod. Not bad, works pretty good, but still isn't as easy to cast as the fast sinking line.

Aaanyway, I get away from the madness and walk north. I cast and cast. The beach is pretty flat, with some almost nice foamy areas. Somewhere past the trestle I feel some sort of funny bump (still the floater) but I think its just a rock or something. Turns out to be my skunk-beater for the day, an almost world-record tiny barred perch.

I switch to the other line, the hi-d tungsten impregnated S8, and it is much easier to cast. So eventually I run out of steam and head back. Most of the bait guys didn't catch anything, it seems. Well me neither, aside from little tiny perch. I think I'm hungry, but didn't bring more food. On the way back I stop and fish at RDM for a little, but it is frustrating, and no hits. Doesn't feel fishy at all.

I get home and am grumpy. I need to pack powerbars or something for future trips.
