Headed down late morning, um.. about 11, to Manresa. Need to get on the fishing ball again, as this was too long of a break. I'm feeling crappy, with a bit of a cold; something nasty is going around and lots of my students have gotten sick lately. At least the highschoolers. If they could only stop hanging out with each other.
Aaanyway.. I rig up and head down. Tide is outgoing. Sunny out. Lots of people too, as it is MLKJr day. I don't walk too far; there are some interesting spots down to the left, and that is where I spend most of my time. No hits, bumps or anything. Talk to a lady on the beach who wants to know what I'm doing; her husband is retired and needs a hobby, apparently. My casting feels out of whack, but I get my rhythm back, eventually.
So.. fishing on the left side of one hole, i go to pick up for the backcast, and feel it go heavy. It really throbs, pulling real hard. It jumps.. looks kinda like a perch, but doesn't feel like it at all. Striper?? I get it in close, and sure enough it is a nice barred perch, but it is hooked at the base of the dorsal fin. Well, close enough.. it had to have been going for my fly. No camera with me, so I try to take a pic with my new cellphone cam, but somehow goof it and loose the picture. Oh well. It was a nice barred about 11" or so.
That's it, nothing more. I fished a little longer, then headed back up.
