Wife and kids are off on a field trip, so I go fishing..
Rio del Mar beach, evening. I went down last night too, for a shakedown-fish.. its been like months since the last trip (DANG! almost 3!). I managed to leave the line basket at home, so tried to do it with coiled loops in my left hand. Difficult. There were 4 guys fishing for stripers with spin gear.. one had apparently caught one earlier, topwater plug.
Unlike last night, there were no other fishermen on the beach; a little less kelp-salad though. Fished a worm fly and a deceiver on the sinking line. Eventually switched to the floater to keep the flies out of the kelp salad, but no hits, no nothing.
Fished the 10' XP #9 with the #9 floater or the #9 outbound sinker. Next I'm going back to the #8 XTR, same floater to see if I can use that combo, and the #8 outbound sinker.
Want to get a spey rod.
I'm photographing now with the D70 and the 50mm f/1.8 manual lens. Working out ok, but not sure if there is such a huge quality difference, except for low-light and OOF shooting. The results in general seem more pleasing. I really should get a waterproof P&S camera, but I'll give this a try for a while. Hopefully I won't soak it...
