A successful Manresa morning. A short outing; 10:15 - 11:15am. I am still thinking about stripers, but am wanting to use the lighter casting "Bling Rod", so I set it up with the 9wt floating outbound, which I don't think I've tried before. Anyway, this works nicely. The ocean is pretty calm; some surf, some surfers. There are cool green crabs in the sand; regular looking ones that I don't remember seeing before, as well as the mole crabs. Weather is nice, slightly overcast, but somewhat sunny..

Fly is a green & white clouser, but after a while I loose confidence (or get bored not catching anything?), and switch to a Surf Miki that I had taken along, just in case. This proved to be a Good Thing, as I immediately hooked a small/medium perch and landed it. Neat. I had another, stronger one on a little later, but it popped off close to shore.

Another fisherman comes by.. I cast a bit more, and the fish seem to have left, but after a few more minutes I have a GOOD grab, and it is an 11-inch barred perch. NICE!!! A bit more casting and one more fish; a walleye. I head back up to go get my kids.

I'm not sure the floater is any better or worse than the bomb-the-bottom line, but with a long enough leader (about 8' today) it seems fine for at least somewhat shallow conditions, and gives the fly a chance of being in the zone for fish that don't hang out on the bottom.

Looks like I was fishing the incoming, close to high tide. I really need to get a camera!!
