Lewiston camping vacation.. first day there:

We got in the car (its getting warm now) and drove up to the fly shop, where we found Herb, who maybe remembered us from last year. I bought some stuff, and Herb gave us tips (rent a boat on Lewiston lake to fish), and also directions to stewart creek, an area with a small stream where Domi could try out the Tenkara rod. The drive there (Bridge camp) wasn't too far. We stopped at the Plug'n'Jug to get ice cream before heading out. The last couple of miles was by dirt road, which felt longer on the way in than it did going out. The creek was nice, but devoid of fish. Pretty small stream, but Domi got the hang of roll-casting the tenkara set up. Of course, when we got back to our entrance point, I had a peek UP-stream, and this looked like perhaps the better water?? .. though it was very very still and glassy.

We drove back, got ice, then to the campground where I dropped the boys off (Linus took the board down to go paddling) and went to look at the river. They had just released a BUNCH of water, to keep the salmon downstream from dying in the drought/heat, so the river here is very high. I did some careful casting from the bank, with the Anderson JHC rod, then drove back to the campsite. Hotdogs, cleanup, reading, and to bed we go. 10:54pm as I write this, tired but feeling good.
