After a long break from fishing, I finally did an outing. It used to be a lot easier to get out, when I had the dayjob and some time-flexibility (yes, on the dayjob!), but now as self-employed with ULTIMATE time-flexibility, playing hookie from myself is a little harder. Still, one needs to take care of oneself, and too much time of no fishing is just plain bad.
So I assembled the kit, hoping I wasn't forgetting anything. As it turned out, all I forgot was the net, so no biggie. No fish were caught anyway, and I don't always need it. Funny thing, I got an email from Ken Hanley this morning. Auspicious, or something.
Drove down and checked out Manresa... flat with red tide. Continued to Sunset beach.. same deal there, though one guy had fished it in the morning. Continued down and ended up checking out Moss Landing, a first.
I parked at the dunes, off the first exit before the harbor. Looked nice and clear.. no rootbeer colored water here. Surf looked maybe a bit heavy for me, but manageable. Rigging up took some time, but was pleasant. The flybox is in sorry shape, so some time at the vise is in order here. I should also make a new batch of ready and looped leaders.
Walked the beach and cast going south toward the jetty. A number of surfers were down there, and a couple of fishermen too. No fish though. No bites, no nothing. Weather was clear and sunny, and I'm out late. Kindof what I expected, but of course with fishing, hope reigns eternal.
