My best hobby yet..

I believe my plant obsession started December '93, when I bought a cactus for my studio. Since then I have gone through a rose phase, an orchid phase, a Japanese Maple phase and something of a bulb phase. I ended up settling on palms, bamboo and maples, with a little of everything else mixed in. On this site I will share some pictures, and pointers to places on the web I find useful and interesting.

One of the most useful plants in the world, bamboo is beautiful as well. A nearby place nearby called Bamboo Giant has some huge groves growing on their property, which are really impressive. Much good information can be found at the American Bamboo Society website. Currently my collection includes square bamboo (Chinmonobambusa quadrangularis), Chusquea coronallis - a beautiful clumper, and small specimens of Phyllostachys heterocycla pubescens (Moso), Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Castillion' and Phyllostachys vivax (big green timber bamboo).

I'm also very keen on palms, and always looking out for new ones that can grow in my climate. Here are some good palms sites:

Interested in Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum)? I found some nice sites at Eastwoods Nurseries and at Mountain Maples. The Mountain Maples site has good cultural information and articles. One can also order nice inexpensive first year grafts from The World Plant Shop.
