So. fork Merced at Wawona and Merced in Yosemite valley.
South fork of Merced river, went down to check it out, with the boys. Elk-hair caddis fly, on the 3wt rod. First cast, into a likely spot, got a hit and a fish was on for about 2 seconds. Saw it jump. Small trout.. maybe 8 inches? Cool. Unfortunately, no more hits during the rest of the time I was down there with the boys. Maybe their splashing around in the water contributed ;).
Later, tossed same fly in the Merced down in the Yosemite valley. Didn't see any fish.. it was a warm afternoon.. in the 90's, but the cool river felt good on my bare legs, and it was fun practicing drifting a dry fly for once. I don't get to do that much.
3wt rod works great for shorter casts. I have to be really careful on the longer ones, as I tend to over power the rod, and create tailing loops and a tangled mess. I should get a 5wt, dangit.
